Bricklaying

Bricklayers

Summary

To construct, build and repair buildings and other structures, such as foundations, walls, chimneys or even decorative
masonry work.

 

Other responsibilities and duties are as follows:

 

Laying bricks.

Applying or removing grout with a trowel.

Strengthening and sealing foundations with the appropriate material, usually damp-resistant materials.

Repairing building blocks and chimneys.

Refurbishing
decorative stonework.

Measuring before laying bricks, the bricklayer needs to measure the build area to be able to place the first rows of bricks and damp course.
Understanding and managing the quantities of material
required for the job.

Using tools such as hand tools, brick-cutting machines but also spirit.

Plastering Wall

Plasterers

Summary
To smooth or create a decorative finish on internal walls and ceilings.

To apply render and finishes to external walls.

To give a room a fresh feel, repair damage or bring a space back to life.
Working quickly to mix and apply different kinds of plaster to internal walls and ceilings.
Carrying out solid plastering and applying wet finishes.
Dry lining, i.e. fixing internal plasterboard or wallboard partitions.
Putting protective coverings on external walls such as pebbledash, sand or cement render.

Calculating how much plaster/render you need for the job in hand.
Carrying out small repairs, renovating homes, or working as part of a team on big commercial projects.
Using fibrous plastering and moulds and casts to create ornamental plasterwork.
Working at a client’s home or business, on a construction site or in a workshop.

Hammers on Rack

General builders

Summary
To work with the Building Manager, Maintenance Manager and a small multi trade team to ensure the cyclical, reactive and planned maintenance is completed to target and budget over a range of properties.

 

Selects, measures and cuts steel bars, rods and wire to required lengths, positions and fixes reinforcements into position and tensions as required using hydraulic jacks.
Lays bricks, tiles and building blocks to construct, repair and decorate buildings.
Pours and levels concrete, prepares surfaces for painting and plastering, and mixes and applies plaster and paint.
Installs plumbing fixtures, woodwork structures and fittings, and sets glass in frames; Maintains and repairs steeples, industrial chimneys and other high structures, and installs and replaces lightning conductors, erects and repairs fencing.
